A few years ago, I met my good friend's grandson Ethen. At the time, I did not know he was autistic. All I saw in him was an interesting little guy with a great imagination. I later found out he was autistic and his parents recruited me to ride in the 2016 Baltimore Bike-to-the-Beach. I had never ridden that far, and wondered if I could go the distance, but it was a great experience. And raised precious funds for such a worthwhile cause. So as I prepare for the 2017 Baltimore Bike-to-the-Beach, I keep in mind that I'm doing this for Ethen, possibly the coolest little guy on the planet, and all those affected by Autism.
I am biking in the Bike to the Beach for autism charity ride to make a difference in the lives of the 1 in 68 children diagnosed with autism. Autism is the 2nd most prevalent developmental disorder in the world, but receives less federal funding than any other disorder affecting children. These numbers are staggering.
Fundraising dollars for Bike to the Beach are not just direct monetary donations, but an effort by Bike to the Beach to impact the community through local programs for children, families, and those affected by autism. By supporting iCan Bike programs, summer camps, and adult learning programs, Bike to the Beach’s provides opportunities for people with autism that make a difference.
Our Local Partners
“Bike to the beach was the first organization that was able to empower me personally to take action and make a huge difference for our local autism community. They make it easy for individuals and small groups to make a significant impact by providing all the fundraising infrastructure, and more importantly, an amazing weekend.”
